Ethel Callaway
Ethel Callaway, 91, of Craig, died Nov. 7, 2008, at her home.
She was born Jan. 27, 1917, in Craig.
Ethel met and married E.K. Callaway, of Maybell, while they both worked at The Memorial Hospital in Craig.
She later married Mahlon Gates.
Ethel’s hobbies included vegetable gardening and photography. She did volunteer work at the hospital and was a part-time peacekeeper sand cook to the numerous neighborhood friends of her four sons during their formative years.
Ethel is survived by her four sons, Gene of Arvada, Roy of Salome, Ariz., Joe of Craig and John of Crystal Lakes; 12 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mahlon Gates; her former husband, E.K. Callaway; and eight brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA Hospice of Craig.
