Roger J. Pilgrim 1919 - 2008

Roger J. Pilgrim, 88, of Baggs, Wyo., died April 26, 2008, at his home.
He was born Nov. 10, 1919, in Battle Creek, Mich., the only child of Howard and Nina (Jordan) Pilgrim. He was raised on the family farm and began grade school in a one-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Lake View High School in Battle Creek.
Roger married Margaret Unruh on Dec. 26, 1941, in Battle Creek, Mich. Two weeks later, Roger enlisted in the Army. After returning home from the service, Margaret and Roger farmed in the Battle Creek area before moving to Colorado in 1951. They settled on Gore Creek, modern day Vail, and ranched there until moving to Edwards in 1960, where they began raising sheep.
In 1973, Margaret and Roger moved to Lay and finally settled in Baggs, Wyo., in 1975.
Roger loved the many animals he raised throughout the years but held a special fondness for his horses, sheep and a few very special cats.
Roger is survived by his son, Monty, and wife, Michelle, of Baggs, Wyo.; a grandson, Will Shepherd; numerous nieces, and his special companion, "Matilda" the cat.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Nina Pilgrim, his loving wife, Margaret, and an infant son.
At Roger's request, no services will be held.
