Anna A. Kawchack died Feb. 14 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was 88.
Anna was born Dec. 7, 1919 at a farm home northeast of Craig. She was from a family of 16 children born to Paul Kawcak from Steznica Galicia, Russia. Her mother was Julia Biskup Kawcak, born in Rockvale.
Anna was a member of the Catholic church and the Retired Teachers Association of California. She taught school for 38 years in Nebraska, Colorado and California. She taught for two years in a one-room school in Mount Hamilton, Calif.
The rest of her teaching career was spent in the La Miranda School District in Los Angeles. She retired in 1979.
After her retirement, she worked part time at Rite-aid Drug in La Habra, Calif. She enjoyed traveling, cruises, dancing and watching sports on television.
Anna was very patriotic and enjoyed small children. She moved to Grand Junction in July 2000 and lived at the Atrium until she moved to Larchwood Inns in November 2005, where she lived until her death. Her caregivers at Larchwood Inns were compassionate and caring. The nurses at St. Mary's Hospital were greatly appreciated for their kind care.
Survivors include brothers Mike, Paul, Dan and Ivan (Regina), of Craig; brother Bob, of Minden, Nev.; sisters Eva (Leonard) Robertson, of Grand Junction, Helen Hannah, of Kingston, N.C., Alice Van Tassel, of Greeley, and Janet Kawchack, of Craig, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Paul and Julia Kawcak; brothers Steve Kawchack, Joe Kawcak, Nick Kawcak and Tom Kawcak, and sisters Mary Spring and Julia Zulian.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held in Craig at a later date.
