October 19, 1931 - February 21, 2008
Former Craig resident Marlene (Jeannie) Lawton died at her home in Thornton on Feb. 21, 2008. She was 76.
She was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Plymouth, Utah. She came to Craig in 1948 with her husband, Eddie Redmon. They had three children: Loana, Linda and Lonnie. After Eddie's death, Marlene married Chester (Bud) Lawton in 1956. They had two children: Bonnie and Trenna.
As a member of the Lawton family, Marlene discovered she loved to fish and go camping. She loved the annual fishing trips with the family to Hahn's Peak Lake, Big Red Park and Vaughn Lake. Some of her fondest memories were of those family outings.
Marlene's family considering her a wonderful cook. She passed down several great recipes to her daughters and daughter-in-law. Marlene's greatest joy in life was being with her family. She loved to have a family gathering - big meal or picnic then play games afterwards. With her terrific sense of humor, Marlene always kept the party going.
Marlene worked as a housekeeper, babysitter and did janitorial work for the Craig Medical Clinic. But, she considered her most important and satisfying job in life to be a loving wife and mother, which she was. She leaves her family with many wonderful memories and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Loana Dorland, of Thornton, Linda McLaughlin (Jim) Pahrump, of Nevada, Lonnie (Linda) Redmon, of Craig, Bonnie (David) Case, of Northglenn, and Trenna (JD) Reed, of Northglenn; brother, Gail Glass, of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; sister, Angella Sweatt, of Diamond Bar, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chester Lawton; parents, Reva Ward and George Archibald; a grandson and a granddaughter.
She was buried Feb. 26, 2008, at the Craig Cemetery.
