Elmer A. Hutton, longtime Craig resident, died Feb. 28, 2008, at the Sandrock Ridge Care Center in Craig after a brief illness. He was 88.
Elmer was born on June 30, 1919, in Cheyenne Wells, Colo., the son of George David and Nellie Irena (Frisbie) Hutton. Elmer moved to Craig, Colorado in the early thirties and has resided here since that time. He married Ruth G. Gore on April 4, 1960.
In early years, Elmer and his brothers operated a coal mine near Oak Creek. He also was employed as a truck driver hauling Gilsonite to Bonanza, Utah. Later on, he became employed at the Empire Energy coal mine from which he retired.
Elmer enjoyed woodworking and spent a lot of time building bird houses.
Elmer is survived by his daughter Gloria and her husband Pete Lopez of Aurora; sons Dennis and his wife Dena Harper of Craig, and Thomas and his wife Sharilyn Harper of Banning, Calif.; brothers Walter and his wife Marge Hutton of Colorado Springs, and Howard and his wife Donna Hutton of Casper, Wyo.; numerous grandchildren great grandchildren several great-great grandchildren also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Alice, brothers Willis, Art, David, Richard, Robert and his wife Ruth.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at a later date.
