April 8, 1933 - July 22, 2008
Longtime rancher Robert "Bob" Orchard of Baggs, Wyo., died July 22, 2008, at University Hospital in Aurora as a result of complications from an accident-related burn. He was 75.
Bob was born July 8, 1933, in Baggs to Everett and Leola Orchard. He attended school in Baggs, Wyo., completed a year of college in Casper and served in the Army before returning home. He and Deenie Carr married Sept. 9, 1962 and later had four daughters.
Bob was a rancher his entire life, and nothing gave him more joy than working on a broken-down tractor, tending to livestock or irrigating meadows. He spent approximately 30 years shearing sheep for various ranches, a vocation he was very proud of. He loved hunting and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. Bob was known to many as "uncle Bob" and always had a pocket full of gum suckers to share with kids of all ages. He enjoyed bragging about his daughters and grandkids to anyone who would listen.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill and sister Mary.
He is survived by his wife, Deenie; four daughters, Vickie (Mike) Hepler of Cheyenne, Wyo., Jackie (Wayne) Goodnow of Craig, Becky (Don) Draper of Fruita, and Bobbie Orchard of Fruita; eight grandchildren, Nick (Mandy) Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Riley Johnson, Makayla Goodnow, Alexi Goodnow, Shyanne Draper, Tyler Draper and Maxwell Orchard; brother Chuck Orchard and sister Dixie Baldwin.
Memorial services were July 27 in Baggs. Memorial contributions may be sent to Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave. in Craig for the benefit of the Little Snake River Ambulance Fund.
