Lawrence Lee "Larry" Poole died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at his home in Craig.
Larry was born Nov. 22, 1938, in Norfolk, Va., to Lawrence Albert and Katie (Bryson) Poole. He was raised in Dallas. He attended Highland Park High School, in Dallas. Following graduation from Shriner Military School in Kerrville, Texas, in 1957, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps and was a sergeant when discharged.
Larry then returned to Texas where he attended the University of Texas in Arlington and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. While in college, he played for the University of Texas football team.
He then worked for Titanium Metals in Henderson, Nev., as a chemist.
Larry moved to Craig in 1978. He married Phyllis M. Parkin on Feb. 11, 1978, in Las Vegas. They have made their home in Craig since that time. Larry worked for Colo-Wyo Coal Company as a coal miner, truck driver, foreman and quality control supervisor.
Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and reloading and was an avid Bronco fan.
He was a member of NRA, Bears Ears Trap Shooters Club and the Cedar Mountain Gun Club.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Poole, of Craig; daughters Heidi (Randy) Meyring, of Craig and Motique Poole, of San Antonio; son Lee Poole and significant other Amy Robinson, of Gillette, Wyo.; his granddaughters Lynn and Savannah Meyring, of Craig; twin sister Katherine (Rick) Nobles and their children Rick and James, of Goodrich, Texas; sisters-in-law Judy Heflin, of Craig and Marylee Deckert, of Riverton, Wyo.; niece Misty (Mike) Anderson, and nephew Robert (Amy) Heflin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Christal Poole.
Cremation has taken place and A Celebration of His Life was Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the OP Bar and Grill in Craig.
