Elizabeth Anderson

Elizabeth (Lit) Hammond Anderson was born in Enid, Okla., and died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig.
As the daughter of Omah Hill and Nannie Belle Moore, she was raised in Enid.
In 1931, she married Marlan (Doc) Hammond in Oklahoma and to this union one child, Tom Hammond, was born.
Doc and Lit Hammond later moved to Colorado and lived in Tabernash, where Doc assisted his father in a store and filling station. At this time, Doc and Lit took her younger brother, Bob Moore, to live with them for about two years after her parents died at an early age.
Doc and Lit moved to Rifle, where Doc worked for the state, and Lit drove a car taking children to school. In 1949, they moved to Craig, where Doc again worked for the state and later worked with his son, Tom, operating a filling station. Lit was employed by Penny's Store for 17 years.
Her husband developed cancer and died, and she went to work at The Memorial Hospital as head housekeeper until she was 65. She then retired.
Lit later married John Anderson, of Craig, who also worked for the state. They went together for 12 years and then were married for two years before his death. She continued to live at home at 95 years old with the help of her grandchildren, Lance (Mary) Hammond and Pennie (Pat) Planagan, for many years. When her son, Tom Hammond, retired and returned to Craig, she depended on him and her grandson for assistance.
Lit Anderson enjoyed being with her friends, attended the Congregational Church for many years and enjoyed going for rides in her car.
She was very close to her brother, Bob, who came out to visit her twice a year from Venezuela. They loved to go fishing at Steamboat Lake and spent many hours throughout the years fishing.
She loved cooking, working in her garden, flowers, and was well known for her German chocolate cakes and pecan pie.
Lit recently attended her 95th birthday party at her son's home in Craig, and many relatives and friends wished her well. She was able to live alone at her home until her death.
She was the last surviving child of a family of nine brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlan (Doc) Hammond, husband John Anderson, brothers Charlie Moore, Bob Moore and James Moore, and sisters Viola Milburn, Edna Allen, Thelma Firestone, Mava Waggerman and Mary Lewis.
She is survived by her son, Tom (Ingrid) Hammond, grandchildren Lance (Mary) Hammond, Pennie (Pat) Planagan, Cindy Hammond, Robert Hammond and David Hammond, and five great-grandchildren, Cam and Saraya Hammond, Tammie Fae and Zack Hammond and Kyle Rowe. She will be missed by her friends and family.
A funeral was Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at Grant Mortuary, with Leonard Browning officiating.

Pallbearers were Paul Perez, Brian Baxter, Wesley Estey, Dean Brosious, Lance Hammond, Cameron Hammond and Saraya Hammond. Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery.
