Donald M. Johnson Jr., a longtime Hamilton resident, died Monday, April 7, 2008, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig, following a lengthy illness. He was 67 years old.
Donald was born Oct. 29, 1940, in Carbondale, to Donald M. and Margaret (Kissell) Johnson.
He spent his childhood in Marble, Rifle and Craig, where he attended school. He married Lilly Jane Mead on June 2, 1963, in Craig and to this union two daughters were born.
Don and Lilly lived in Craig for 15 years before moving to Hamilton, where they have resided for the past 30 years.
Donald worked in various occupations through the years including plumbing, working on oil rigs, driving a truck at local gravel pits and was a truck driver for the Moffat County Road Department.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling, motorcycles, working on cars and ranching.
He is survived by his wife, Lilly Johnson, of Hamilton; daughters, Marilyn (Bill) Hering, of Hamilton, and Mary Ann (Doug) Walsh, of Grand Junction; grandchildren, Allen Hering, of Georgia, Debbie Hering, of Craig, Elmer (Kelly) Hering, of Craig, Patrick (Claire) Hering, of Craig, Angie (Mark) Boss, of Craig, Alexis (Tyrel) Stevens, of Rangely, Mason Walsh, of Grand Junction, and Daniel Walsh, of Grand Junction; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Pearl Gotfried, of Craig, and Donna Mae Kissler, of Craig, Doris Reed, of Ely, Nev.; mother in law, Carol Mead, of Hamilton, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Douglas.
Graveside services were noon Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Family Ranch in Hamilton.
Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital in care of Grant Mortuary.
