Esthermae "Esther" Schrader Lizardi, a lifelong resident of Moffat County, died April 1, 2008, at her home. She was 62.
Esther was born to the late Bill and Eileen Schrader on Feb. 27, 1946. They lived on the Schrader family ranch in Breeze Basin. She graduated from Moffat County High School in 1964, and from Denver University with a BSW in 1968.
After graduation from DU, Esther went to work for the Red Cross. She was stationed in Denver, South Korea and finally San Diego. While in San Diego, she met and married Anthony Lizardi. Esther divorced and returned to Craig in the early 1980s. She worked for Horizons Specialized Services, and later for Moffat County and Sunset Meadows.
She is survived by cousins Donna and Joe Russo of Routt County, Jim and Linda Showalter of Craig, and Mike and Melanie Showalter of La Jolla; and aunt Edith Showalter of La Jolla. The children of Donna, Jim and Mike also survive her. She took great interest in these children and their accomplishments.
Esther had a special relationship with Jim's son, Joey Showalter, who is married to Tammy.
Memorial services were April 8, at Grant Mortuary in Craig with Dave Ross officiating. The eulogy was by Cari Russo Hermacinski. Memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of the Museum of Northwest Colorado.
