1927 - August 31, 2007
Henry J. "Pete" Etzler died Aug. 31, 2007, at his home in Fruita. He was 79 years old.
Pete was born Dec. 14, 1927 to Henry Claude and Dora Irene (Prichett) Etzler in Steamboat Springs. He was primarily raised in the Steamboat Springs area and that is where he met the love of his life, Donna Dean.
After a tour in the Navy, which he joined in 1946, he returned to Colorado and married Donna. To this union, four children were born: Dick, Bob, Kathy and Donald.
Pete was a man of many trades. He was a mechanic, coal miner, farmer and eventually bought a business in Steamboat Springs that turned into Pete's Auto. He sold grass seed, ran a wrecker business and sold tires. In 1997, he sold his business and retired to the Grand Junction area.
Pete enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, boating on Lake Powell and, of course, teasing his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Dobbs, of Fruita; sons Donald (Dixie) Etzler of Grand Junction and Robert Etzler of Nevada; sister, Lillian Robinson, of Grand Junction; brother, Willard Etzler, of Wheaton, Mo.; and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, a sister, his wife and a son.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Callahan Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. Viewing will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens in Grand Junction.
