Lillie May Schreiber was born May 20, 1920, in Grant, Neb. She died Oct. 11, 2007, in Meeker.
Lillie was the third of six children born to Perry C. Brown and May Belle Ruggles Brown. The family moved from Wray to the Western Slope when she was 7 years old. She was a student of the Olathe school system and graduated from Olathe High School. She lived and worked in Montrose most of her adult life, mostly at J.C. Penny. She retired from there at 70.
Lillie was affiliated and active in the First Church of the Nazarene until moving to Meeker to be by her daughter. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, and they often stayed at her home for days or weeks at a time.
Her pastimes were helping others, embroidering, refinishing old, worn-out furniture and giving the pieces new life. Her favorite pastime was ironing, which she always said relaxed her after a hard day's work.
Lillie had a way of drawing people to her. She listened and loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Lewis Brown, Lois Fortner, Leonard Brown, Loren Dean Brown and Lorna Chinery; her daughter, Marylin (Don) Bertch and son Ronald Garrison.
She is survived by her daughter, Lois Ann (Rusty) Roberts; grandson James (Crystal) Roberts, Kurt Knifer, Brian Garrison and Perry Garrison; granddaughter, Lainie Garrison; great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. They will carry her memory in their hearts.
She is leaving many children by heart: Joe (Mary) Schreiber, Rose Ellen McUne, Sherry Kitsmiller, Marty Lenard, Mary Jean Maedche and Nancy Machacek.
Funeral services were Sunday, Oct. 14, at Cochran Memorial Chapel in Meeker. Internment is today.
