Donald E. Turner, formerly of Maybell, died Oct. 1, 2007, in Fresno, Calif. He was 64.
Don was born July 3, 1943, in Asheville, N.C, to Troy and Beddie (Johnson) Turner. He was raised in North Carolina until moving to California when he was 10 years old. He graduated from high school in Hanford, Calif.
Don married Darlene Strange on Feb. 14, 1986, in Reno, Nev. They made their home in Fresno, Calif., and then in Craig. They returned to Fresno five years ago.
Don was a heavy equipment operator his entire working life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Don is survived by his wife, Darlene Turner of Fresno, Calif.; daughter, Donna (Mark) Biby of Fresno, Calif.; son, Vince Turner of Craig; stepdaughter, Cathy (Dru) Nielson of Craig; stepson, Jim Holland of Buckeye, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers Hugh (Gloria) Turner of Monterey, Calif., and Paul (Rhonda) Turner of Fresno, Calif.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Beddie Turner; his son, Steve; seven brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held Oct. 8, 2007, at Grant Mortuary in Craig with Pastor Dave Ross officiating.
The organist was Anne Carr, and the soloist was Wanda Brown, who sang "Keeper of the Stars" and "In The Garden." Pallbearers were Chris Turner, Matthew King, Tim Turner, Dru J. Nielson, Mark Biby and Dru O. Nielson. Honorary Pallbearers were Hugh Turner, Paul Turner, Vince Turner and Jim Holland.
Interment was in the Craig Cemetery.
