1988 - November 22, 2007
Zachery Alex Bennett was born March 24, 1988, in Brighton to Denice Anne Bennett and Lelund Neil Key.
He was raised in Brighton until moving to Saratoga, Wyo., when he was 5.
As a child, Zachery loved fishing and learning how to build fishing rods with his grandfather. He also enjoyed spending time with all of his relatives and being on his Great Uncles farm with the animals.
At 2 years old, he rode a calf at his great uncles, fell off and giggled all the way to the fence. As soon as he arrived at the fence he wanted to do it again, he was hooked.
His dream of riding bulls came true in high school rodeo. If he could have done it all day, he would have. He had the dream of going to Las Vegas and being in the finals, a dream that never died within him although he did not have the opportunity to ride as much as he wanted.
Throughout his school years, he liked hunting, camping, hiking, four wheeling and hanging out with his friends. His little brother and little sisters were first on his list. He enjoyed watching them grow and playing with them. He looked forward to getting out of school so he could pursue his dreams, which as a young child he thought would be in the eighth grade like his grandpa.
After graduating from Little Snake River High in May 2006, Zachery moved to Cheyenne. His goal was to work and get the money to buy a horse ranch where he could break horses and ride his bulls. He moved back to Baggs a few months ago to break horses for his friend, Levi Ricci.
Zachery had recently had the opportunity to meet his maternal grandfather and aunt. He was happy to have them in his life and was excited to get to know the whole "new" family better and enjoy a long life with them included.
Zachery was a good friend to all who knew him. Always there with a big smile and broad shoulders to help anyone in their bad times and good times. He went out of his way to make everyone laugh. He will be greatly missed by many, more than he knew.
Zachery joined his little brother, grandfather and great grandfather in heaven in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving, Nov. 22, 2007, due to injuries he received in a car accident Nov. 21, 2007.
He is survived by his mother Denice Anne Kapphan (Bennett) of Brush; sisters, Shawneh Anne Kapphan of Brush, Amanda Rae Kapphan of Brush; grandmother Jannyce Ann Bennett of Brush; grandfather Ken Musser of Lakewood; uncle Troy and his wife Shelly Bennett of Strasburg; aunt Kenieth Musser of Lakewood; great aunts Gloria and Nick Kallsen of Brush; Joyce and her husband Bob Chandler of Granger, Ind., Lettie Kathrine of Denver; Dorothy McDaniel of Lafayette; great uncle Bob and his wife Patsy Bennett of Dillon, Mont.; cousins Tonya, Gordon and Dustin Griess of Greeley, Terry, Blaine Kallsen and Brittany Thiel of Brush, Pam Shrum of Littleton, Neil and Rachael Tracy of Denver, Bobby and Tommy Bennett, Jana Bennett and children of New Mexico; and numerous other new relatives.
He was preceded in death by his little brother Kalub M. Kapphan, his great grandmother Marie Barclay, great grandfather Vaud M. Bennett Sr. and his grandfather Vaud M. Bennett Jr.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 2, 2007, at The Little Snake River School in Baggs, Wyo., with Pastor Paul Prestrud officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with expenses.
