September 28, 1957 - October 28, 2007
Mickel "Mike" Hansen, 50, of Craig, died at 10:24 a.m. Oct. 28, 2007, at his home. He had been fighting lung cancer for the past year.
Mike was born Sept. 28, 1957, in Flagler to Loretta and Viggo Hansen. He grew up in the Hugo and Leadville areas.
Mike married Debbie L. Chance on Aug. 15, 1992, in Elma, Wash. Mike was known for his sense of humor and practical jokes. His ability to listen and willingness to help anyone was one of his greatest gifts.
He served in the U.S. Marines as a rifle range instructor, and also as a radio operator, something he was very proud of doing.
Mike's work life included various occupations, but his final job - and the one he was most proud of - was working as a diesel mechanic at Trapper Mines. He considered everyone there as his second family.
Some things Mike enjoyed in life were hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time at the cabin in Tin Cup. His main pride and joy was his son, Zachary, whom he taught to enjoy some of the same things.
Survivors include his wife Debbie; son Zachary; mother, Loretta Montano; sister Sabrina Toombs; and nephew Travis Toombs.
Mike will be remembered as a great husband, father and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
At a later date, the family will hold a gathering to celebrate Mike's life.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be made to an account set up for his son, Zachary, at First National Bank of the Rockies or to the Visiting Nurse Association Hospice.
