Harold K. McStay was born April 22, 1917, in Trego County, Kan., to Alvah Charles and Frieda J. (Korth) McStay. He was raised and attended school in the WaKenney area.
He married Elaine Claycamp on Sept. 8, 1935, in Hays, Kan., and to this union, six children were born. Harold and Elaine were married for 68 years before her passing in 2003. They lived in western Kansas until moving to the northwestern Colorado near Craig in 1962.
Harold was a hard working man that worked tirelessly his whole life to build a ranch for him and his family. He was a good dad, grandpa and friend. He offered his friends and family a lifetime of wisdom and advice.
Harold died on July 1, 2007, at his daughter's home with his family at his side.
He is survived by his daughters Janene Ogletree of Craig, and Vivian (Victor) Michel of Lakin, Kas.; sons Wes McStay of Craig, and Mark (Nancy) McStay and Craig; grandchildren Charles Michel, Colleen Douglas, Tamara Rodd, Troy Michel, Collin and Will McStay, Kimberly Martinez, Sonda Ethridge and Regina Grinolds; great grandchildren Travis and Taylor Martinez, Cody and Cory Douglas, Ryan, Aaron and Paige Rodd, Clay Michel, Adrenne and April Ethridge; great-great grandchildren Jason and Sebastian Douglas; sisters, Wilma Hartzell of Columbia, Mo. And Philine Turner of Wichita, Kan.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Erma McCoy, a brother Earl J, his wife Elaine, a daughter Cheryl and a son Allan.
Graveside services were held July 3, 2007, at the Craig Cemetery with Pastor Robert Woods of the First Congregational Church officiating, Michelle Michel sang "Amazing Grace." Honorary Pallbearers were "All Harold's Family and His Many Friends." Memorial Donations may be made to the Northwest Colorado VNA and Hospice in care of Grant Mortuary.
