Elizabeth "Betty" Stoffle died Dec. 9, 2007, at The Memorial Hospital in Craig after a lengthy illness. She was 58.
Stoffle was born Feb. 6, 1949, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Robert and Agnes (Eigner) Wagner. She was raised and attended school in Milwaukee. She married Raymond Scapardine in 1969 in Chicago, and together, they had a son, Anthony.
They made their home in Chicago and later divorced.
Stoffle moved to Craig in 1981 and worked at The Memorial Hospital as a receptionist, at the Holiday Inn as a hostess, at Anthony's as a clerk and at the Maybell Restaurant.
It was while working at the hospital that she met Anthony Stoffle of Maybell, and the two were married Sept. 1, 1989, in Craig. They made their home in Maybell until moving to Craig in 1999. She enjoyed baking and being a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Anthony Stoffle, of Craig; son, Anthony Scapardine, of Craig; granddaughter Candida; sisters Elaine and her husband Curtis Schrimsher of Craig and Dianne Landergett of Sussex, Wis.; brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Lois Stoffle of Maybell; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The Rosary was recited on Dec. 12, 2007, at the Grant Mortuary Chapel led by Jerry Teeter.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 13, 2007, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Craig with Father Randy Dollins officiating. The soloist was Celeste Sanchez accompanied by Julia Foster. Pallbearers were Anthony Scapardine, David and Michael Stoffle, Curtis and Jon Schrimsher and Curtis Wright. Interment followed in the Craig Cemetery.
