Laurence Henry Straub was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Santa Ana, Calif., to Walter and Florence Straub. He was raised and attended school in Orange County, Calif.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Laurence married Donna Preble in 1950, and they raised three children. They made their home in Santa Ana, where Larry worked as a police officer for the city of Santa Ana for 27 years. Their marriage ended in divorce in 1960. He married Jean Short in 1963, and this marriage ended in divorce in 1979.
Following his retirement from the police force, Larry worked as a security officer for the Newporter Inn in Newport Beach, Calif., and at the Marriott Hotel in Anaheim.
Larry was a licensed pilot, an avid reader and enjoyed studying military history.
He moved to Craig in April 2000 to be near his daughter, Laurie.
He died at his home in Craig on Monday, Aug. 20, 2007.
He is survived by his daughter, Laurie Benedict; sister, Celestia Hargis of San Diego; niece Mary Jo Chinchar; and nephews, David and Walter Hargis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Christine, and his son, Steven.
Cremation has taken place, and no public services are planned.
