Victor Vincent Phillips 1932 - 2007
Victor Vincent Phillips died July 26, 2007, from complications from a stroke. He was born to Lester and Mary Phillips on Sept. 28 1932, in Slater, Colo., on his grandparent's, Vincent and Lilly Robidoux, ranch.
He grew up in the Little Snake River Valley in southern Wyoming. He graduated from Baggs High School in 1950. While in high school, he enjoyed playing the drums and was in a band. He married Frances Lewis in 1949, and they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in December.
Shortly after high school, he was drafted into the military. Vic was stationed in Lawton, Okla., at Fort Sill and played the drums in the Army Marching Band. After spending two years in the Army, he and Frances moved to Billings, Mont., and bought All State Roofing from his father-in-law, Ray Miller.
Vic and his brother Wilbur Phillips ran the roofing company from 1955 until his retirement in 1995. He was president of the Billings Contractors Council from 1979 until 1982.
Vic graduated from the Dale Carnegie Course in 1982 with honors. He also was a lifetime member of the Billings Elks Lodge No. 394.
Of the many virtues that Vic possessed, his generosity was one of his greatest. If anyone needed a helping hand, Vic was always there.
Vic enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, working in his garden and doing yard work. His greatest joys in his life were his family and especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lester Phillips, Mary Hopf; his stepfather Bob Hopf; and two sons Ike and Victor.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; his children Cathy Stevens (Stan) of Billings, Mont., and Darla Borges (John) of Windsor; his grandchildren Vanessa, Stu, Jessica, Madeline, and Marissa; his sister May Emma Ogg (Don) of Baggs, Wyo., brother Wilbur Phillips (Linda) of Billings, Mont., Curt Lewis (Julie) of Dallas, Texas, Jeanette Reichenbach (Bud) of Billings, Mont.,Chuck Miller (Alice) of Billings, Mont., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vic will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather, as well as a dedicated businessman and honorable member of the community.
A memorial service was held at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave. in Billings, Mont, at 2 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2007.
