A potentially dangerous situation turned out to be a routine injury Friday night at the Warrior Classic Grand Junction.
Montezuma-Cortez High School 103-pound wrestler Cody Dennison appeared to sustain a serious head or neck injury, when in the second round of his match a takedown landed Dennison on his head.
Dennison showed no signs of movement for close to 15 minutes after sustaining the injury, and was transported from Mesa State’s Brownson Arena to St. Mary’s Hospital.
Emergency personnel first believed Dennison sustained a paralyzing injury, but after further observation he was found to have only sustained a concussion.
“Cody was released late Friday night after he received a CAT scan and was determined to only have a concussion,” Montezuma-Cortez athletic secretary Stacy Hall said. “He didn’t finish the tournament, and we don’t know when he’ll be able to return to school.”
