— A 17-year-old girl was flown to a Denver hospital after her car collided with a tanker truck Friday morning on Rabbit Ears Pass.

It was later determined that Kristen Bingen, of Rapid City, S.D., did not suffer serious injuries.

The crash was reported at about 9:15 a.m. near mile marker 155 on U.S. Highway 40. That is about 1 mile from the Colorado Highway 14 intersection in Jackson County.

Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Scott Elliott said the car was being driven eastbound down the pass when the driver lost control going around a curve, where there were icy spots. The car collided with a tanker truck headed westbound. The tanker was pulling fuel, but the tank did not rupture in the crash.

The driver of the tanker truck, Wolfram Nebeling, of Highlands Ranch, was taken to Yampa Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.

U.S. 40 was closed immediately after the crash but was reopened once the victims were transported.

The accident was cleaned up by mid afternoon.

Emergency responders from Routt, Grand and Jackson counties helped with the crash.

Bingen was issued citations for careless driving causing injury, and for driving a car with fictitious license plates.
