Voter registration deadline Monday

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

The deadline for voters to have a say in November's general election is approaching.

The last day for residents to register to vote is Monday, Moffat County elections supervisor Stephanie Beckett said.

Residents can register to vote one of two ways — online or in person.

Registration forms are available at the county clerk and recorder's office at the Moffat County Courthouse, 221 W. Victory Way.

Residents can also register online at the Colorado Secretary of State's website at, or at

Beckett said many residents have been stopping by the elections department to register, which is encouraging.

"It does seem like a lot of people are interested in voting in this general election," she said. "(They're) inquiring that their status is updated and making sure if we have the right address."

As of Friday, there were 8,876 registered voters in Moffat County, Beckett said.

Of those voters, 1,395 are Democrats, 4,644 are Republicans, 2,802 are unaffiliated, and 35 represent other parties, Beckett said.

Since January, 1,027 residents have registered to vote. About 587 residents have registered since July 12, the last day to register to vote in the August primary election, Beckett said.

More people have recently stopped at the office to check their registration status than before August's primary election, Beckett said.

Resident have been asking questions about what measures would appear on the ballot and which candidates they would be able to vote for, she said.

The majority of voter interests have concerned the state elections, mainly for the governor's seat, Beckett said. Residents have also been inquiring about the various amendments and propositions that will appear on the ballot, she said.

Early voting for the general election starts Oct. 18.

On Nov. 2, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. There are four voting centers in Moffat County.

They are at Centennial Mall, 1111 W. Victory Way in Craig; Hamilton Community Center, 17400 S. Colorado Highway 13; Maybell Community Center, 103 Ellis St.; and the Dinosaur branch of the Moffat County Libraries, 400 W. School St.

Any Moffat County resident may vote at any of the county's voting centers, but must have proper photo identification to vote.
