Veterans Hotline: Moffat County has new veterans van

We now have the new veterans van.

It is a 2006 Freestar and has low mileage. I know this van will last us a long time.

If anyone is interested in driving veterans to Grand Junction periodically, contact me and I will give you the information and paperwork to fill out, and then put you on the driving list.

This is not only helping veterans, but you also get a per diem for driving.

Tickets available for Legion rifle raffle

There are tickets left for the Kimber Model 84L rifle that is being raffled off by American Legion Post 62. I have tickets in my office, or you can contact any American Legion member and get your winning ticket.

VFW, American Legion in need of volunteers

The bingo games sponsored by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4265 (two different games at different times) are really in need of volunteers to help with the games.

If you are interested in helping either or both, call the VFW at 824-7145 or American Legion at 824-3625.

Petition available for podiatry services

I still have the petition to bring back the podiatry doctor to Craig. There is a petition at the VFW, too, but not one at the clinic anymore.

Please come in and sign it — the more signatures we have, the better chance we have of bringing this service back to Craig for the veterans.

Benefits could be available for Navy veterans

If you were in the Navy during the Vietnam era, please come in and look at the new list of ships that were operating in and around that country.

Veterans Affairs is recognizing the fact that these ships were exposed to Agent Orange.

If your ship is on the list, and you feel your health condition is due to Agent Orange exposure, come in and see me.

If you have the documentation from the VA hospital for any condition attributed to Agent Orange exposure, we can file a claim with the VA for a service-connected disability. This means you can be compensated monthly for your condition depending on the rating the review board determines.
