The Taste of Home Cooking School will return to Craig in less than two weeks.
The two-and-a half-hour event, hosted by the Craig Daily Press, features a cooking demonstration of 10 to 12 recipes by featured culinary specialist Guy Klinzing.
The doors open at 5 p.m., and the event begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 at the Moffat County High School auditorium, 900 Finley Lane. Event organizer Amy Fontenot, who is the Daily Press office/circulation manager, said she expects the event to draw between 500 and 700 people.
Klinzing holds a bachelor's degree in performing arts from Northeastern University and a master's of business administration from Dominican University. He is also a 34-year veteran of the snack food and chocolate industries, according to a press release.
But Klinzing said his love for cooking started long before his career in the food industry.
"My favorite dishes are still the ones that my grandmother and mother taught to me as part of our own family tradition," Klinzing said in the release. "Good food served at home not only feeds the family, but also feeds the soul.
"I love discovering those special dishes that are part of the tradition of other friends and families."
More than 34 local residents and businesses will be contributing to the event including sponsors The Memorial Hospital of Craig, Miller Family Appliance, Hi Performance Carwash, Blue Ribbon Kitchens, Furniture Connection, Gino's Neighborhood Pizzeria, Intermountain Appliance and Rhino's Deli.
New to the cooking school this year, attendees will be able to choose from three classifications of tickets — general admission for $10, reserved seating for $15 or VIP Plus for $30.
VIP Plus buyers will be treated to valet parking, a meet-and-greet reception with Klinzing featuring appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks and a copy of the "Taste of Home: Fresh & Easy" cookbook.
All attendees will receive a goody bag featuring items from various local businesses. Attendees will also have the opportunity to compete for door prizes.
Fontenot encourages participants to arrive early to peruse event booths featuring numerous vendors.
Klinzing, a native of Chicago, said he is looking forward to his trip to Craig.
"I can't wait to share these simple, delicious recipes with you while we all celebrate our love of cooking with each other," Klinzing said in the release. "You will be able to impress your family and friends with these great ideas."
Tickets can be purchased at the Craig Daily Press, 466 Yampa Ave.; Miller Family Appliance, 211 W. Fourth St.; Gino's Neighborhood Pizzeria, 572 Breeze St.; Jackson's Office Supply, 106 W. Victory Way; or at http://www.craigdailypress.com/tasteofhome.
