Sweet Adelines will perform Meeker concert

Rio Blanco County residents have an opportunity to help generate funds for a scholarship for a Meeker High School student and listen to some great music.

At 7 p.m. April 30, the Sweet Adelines will perform a concert in Meeker High School Auditorium.

This is the second concert the Yampa Valley Chapter has held this year. Tickets for the event are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. All choir and band students get in free.

“Teachers are offering students a chance for extra credit for attending, and we want to give them an extra incentive,” said Sweet Adeline singer Ivy Davis.

The Yampa Valley Chapter is a member of the international association of Sweet Adelines, which has more than 30,000 members nationwide. There are 25 local members, four of which hail from Meeker.

This show is called “We go together” and features some of the songs preformed at the Teen Idol show in February in Craig.

Sweet Adelines is an a cappella choir, which specializes in four-part harmony and is recognized as one of the true American art forms.

Davis said the group is always looking for new members. The group meets at 7 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Elementary, 800 West Seventh St. in Craig. Those interested also can call Ivy Davis at 824-5746.
