Superfood Tip: Mangos are pumped full of vitamin A, antioxidants
October 26, 2013
Mangoes are rich in flavor as well as vitamins, fiber, phytonutrients and low in calories.
One cup provides:
• 60 percent of Vitamin C needs, which is important for growth and repair of all body tissues
• Vitamin A, essential for healthy vision and skin
• B6 & folate, which helps the body form red blood cells and to reduce to risk of birth defects
• Phytonutrients with potent antioxidant properties that help neutralize cells that cause damage to the body (free radicals) that otherwise may lead to cancer, heart disease and other chronic conditions
Where do they get their beautiful orange-yellow color? Their bold color is from carotenoids — a precursor to the formation of vitamin A.
Mangoes are a great fruit choice for all of us living in the mountains during the winter months. They most commonly are found with fruits in the frozen section making them accessible all year round.
