Superfood Tip: Juicy, sweet oranges
December 18, 2015
It's difficult to not gorge on sweets during the holiday season. So how do you turn down that extra serving of pie, frosted Christmas cookies or all the candy you receive in your stocking?
One way is to substitute sugary treats with fruit, and oranges offer that sweet punch of flavor we often crave. If you're tempted to go for that second or third cookie, try peeling an orange or Clementine. You'd be surprised how oranges are delicious and filling. It's certainly unfair to ask people to cut sweets out all together, but try replacing them every now and then with something healthy.
Oranges offer a number of health benefits, including high amounts of vitamin C.
"A single medium-sized orange can fulfill about 72 percent of your daily requirement for vitamin C. Since vitamin C plays a crucial role as an antioxidant by protecting your body against the damage caused by free radicals generated in the body. It therefore reduces inflammation in immune related conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis," according to thehealthsite.com.
