Sports Briefs: MCHS soccer to play Battle Mountain

The Moffat County High School boys varsity soccer team will play Battle Mountain today at 4 p.m. Loudy-Simpson Park, 500 S. Ranney St.

The game is a crucial one for both teams, with their records each standing at 8-2 overall. MCHS's Western Slope League record is 4-2, with one loss to Battle Mountain, whose league record is 6-1.

A win for MCHS today will put them in first place overall in the Western Slope League.

In their last game, the Bulldogs beat Glenwood Springs, 3-1. Glenwood handed Battle Mountain their only league loss.

Youth bowling set to start this weekend

Thunder Rolls Bowling Center will host a youth bowling program starting this weekend. The program will include three different age groups.

PeeWees is for ages 3 to 7 and will take place at 11 a.m. Saturdays. Participants will play one game with bumpers. The cost is $2 for the game and shoe rentals.

Bantams starts at 10 a.m. Saturdays for ages 7 to 12. The High Rollers program is 6:30 p.m. Mondays for ages 12 to 18. The cost for both is $6 per week for three games and shoe rental.

Enrollment also requires a one-time membership fee of $17, which includes a jersey shirt. Cer-

tified coaches will be on hand.

"What is so cool about this year is we were able to cut the weekly fee from $10 to $6 thanks to (Thunder Rolls) and fundraising," said Thunder Rolls employee Chris Runyan. "I am hoping parents will really take advantage of the great opportunity."

Nike to show new shoes to MCHS hoops teams

A representative from Nike will be at Moffat County High School from 10 a.m. to noon today to display the company's new athletic footwear.

Boys and girls basketball players will have the opportunity to view Nike's newest styles and get custom fittings at a 35-percent discount.
