Sports Briefs for June 24, 2011: TMH Golf Tourney rescheduled

The 11th annual The Memorial Hospital Foundation Golf Tournament, which was set for today, has been rescheduled for Sept. 23 due to wet conditions at Yampa Valley Golf Course.

Check-in will be at 11 a.m., and the shotgun start is slated for noon.

The tournament will be a four-person scramble format to benefit The Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Anyone who has already registered but cannot compete Sept. 23 can contact the golf course for refunds.

The entry fee is $50 per person, or $200 per team, and includes 18 holes of golf, a golf cart, all-you-can eat burgers and a chance to win cash prizes.

Mulligans may be purchased, and mulligan tickets will be used in drawings for Colorado Rockies tickets, gift certificates and more.

There will also be prizes for a chipping pond, straightest drive and closest to the pin.

Registration will be reopened depending on the number of people who take refunds.

Motocross races slated for Sunday

Thunder Ridge Motor Sports Park, located south of Craig, will host motocross races Sunday.

All age groups and classes are welcome to compete.

Sign-up begins at 7 a.m., and practice begins at 8:30 a.m. The first race is slated to begin at 9:30 a.m.

Race registration is $25 per racer, and the cost of admission is $10 per person.

The Craig Lion's Club will be selling breakfast and lunch at the track.

Inaugural races were June 11.

Craig resident Landon Willey won the schoolboy class; Parachute resident Brady Nay won the adult beginner class; Morris Herbert, of Monument, won the novice/amateur class; Tom Williams, of Fairplay, won the vintage class; and Palmer resident George Pennington won the post vintage class.

British youth soccer camp comes to Craig

Craig Parks and Recreation is hosting a weeklong British soccer camp from July 11 to 15 at Woodbury Sports Complex, 350 Mack Lane.

Hosted by Challenger Sports, the camp will teach young players foot skills, technical drills and tactical practices and include daily scrimmages.

The First Kicks session for 3-year-olds costs $73 and will go from 9 to 10 a.m.

The Mini Soccer session is for ages 4 and 5 and costs $88. The Mini Soccer session will go from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

For ages 6 to 16, the half-day session costs $110 and goes from 9 a.m. to noon.

Youths who sign up for the half-day session may also sign up for the Golden Goal session from 1 to 3 p.m. for an additional $38.

A $10 late fee will be added for anyone who registers after June 30.
