Sports Briefs for July 8, 2011: Thunder Ridge to host 1st stock car races Saturday

Thunder Ridge Motor Sports Park, located south of Craig, will host its first stock car races Saturday.

The first race is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., but an extended hot lap session will prelude for a test and tune.

The scheduled sprint car show has been postponed to a later date.



Racers can register for $25.

The general admission cost is $10 and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs. For more information, call 629-0996.



Swimming complex hosting weekend event

Due to the Craig Sea Sharks ABC Meet today through Sunday at the Craig Swimming Complex, only the wave pool will be open to the public those three days.

In accordance with safety regulations, the wave pool will be limited to 200 swimmers at one time.

There will be two sessions today and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., and one session on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.

Bear River Young Life golf tournament set for July 29

The fourth annual Bear River Young Life golf tournament is scheduled to tee off July 29 at Yampa Valley Golf Course, 2179 Colorado Highway 394.

The first group will start at 1 p.m.

The tournament will be a four-person scramble format and registration is $200 for the team, which includes golf carts.

Numerous prizes will be given away and a dinner will follow the tournament around 6 p.m.
