Sports Briefs for July 6, 2011: Pool party set for today

Officials are recognizing the completion of a two-year Craig Swimming Complex wave pool renovation with a family pool party from 1 to 5 p.m. today.

Over the past two years, the wave pool has been reconditioned and resurfaced, as well as undergone upgrades with a new wave generating system to allow for five different wave patterns.

Admission has been reduced to $2.50 for all ages and a cake will be cut at 2 p.m.

There will be games and Colorado Lottery give-a-ways, as well.

Doak Walker registration deadline approaching

Craig Parks and Recreation is accepting registration for the 2011 Doak Walker tackle football season.

Registration is open to all third- through sixth-graders.

The cost is $50 per player and registration must be turned in by July 20.

Practice will begin the week of Aug. 8.

A mandatory skills day, official weigh in and equipment check will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 25 for third- and fourth-graders and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. July 26 for fifth- and sixth-graders at Craig City Hall, 300 W. Fourth St.

Swimming complex hosting weekend event

Due to the Craig Sea Sharks ABC Meet from Friday through Sunday at the Craig Swimming Complex, only the wave pool will be open to the public those three days.

In accordance with safety regulations, the wave pool will be limited to 200 swimmers at one time on a first-come, first-serve basis.

There will be two sessions Friday and Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m., and one session on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
