Angie Charchalis named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week
Angie Charchalis, a 2008 Moffat County High School graduate, was named Monday the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her contributions to the Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team.
Charchalis, a redshirt junior guard, helped lead the Orediggers to a pair of wins last week including an upset of No. 10 Fort Lewis.
In the two games, which also included a win over Adams State College, Charchalis averaged 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.5 steals and a block.
Against Fort Lewis, Charchalis tied her career high with 28 points and narrowly missed on a double-double with nine rebounds.
This season, Charchalis leads the RMAC in free-throw percentage and 3-point field goals made as well as ranking fifth in steals and seventh in scoring.
Troy Vernon takes second in KSU rodeo
Troy Vernon, of Craig, competed for the Pratt Community College rodeo team during the Kansas State University Rodeo over the weekend in Manhattan, Kan.
The KSU Rodeo was the first of six spring rodeos scheduled in the Central Plains Region this spring for Pratt.
Vernon was one of three PCC athletes to qualify for the short round.
Vernon took second overall in the bull riding with his teammate, Cayd Kluesner, finished in third.
"I saw that our hard work ethic in the practice pen is beginning to pay off as improvement was made by the majority of our team," said Ryan Vander Pluym, PCC men's head rodeo coach.
The PCC rodeo team will travel March 2 to 4 to Garden City, Kan., for the Garden City Community College Rodeo.
Cheyenne wins first Cold Corner Cup
The first Cold Corner Cup youth hockey tournament concluded Monday at Moffat County Ice Arena.
Wyoming teams dominated the tournament, which consisted of six teams, with Cheyenne takings first and Rock Springs second.
Cheyenne beat Rock Springs, 4-3, in the championship game.
Gunnison took third place after a 3-2 victory over Steamboat Springs in the third- and fourth-place game.
Craig went 0-2 in the tournament, losing to Steamboat in the first round and Hyland Hills in the fifth- and sixth-place game.
