Sports Briefs: Elks to host annual Hoop Shoot Contest

The Elks Lodge of Craig will host the Elks National Free Throw Hoop Shoot Contest at Sandrock Elementary School on Dec. 11. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
The contest is open to all boys and girls ages 8 to 13 with an interest in basketball. More than three million contestants participate every year, with competition at local, district, state, regional and national levels.
Competitors have the opportunity to progress to the national finals in Springfield, Mass.
Champions will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Trailbusters season begins in January
Registration is open for Craig Parks and Recreation's 2011 Trailbusters season. The program teaches skiing and snowboarding skills to youth ages 6 to 15.
Lessons will be in Steamboat Springs for five Saturdays: Jan. 22 and 29, and Feb. 5, 19 and 26.
The registration fee is $225 for the classes and $45 for transportation to Steamboat. Lift tickets are $27. Equipment rentals are the responsibility of the participants. The deadline to register is Jan. 5.

Lifeguard training classes start Dec. 7
Registration is open for Craig Parks and Recreation's lifeguard training classes. The sessions are open to all adults and teenagers ages 15 to 50 who are interested in getting certified as a lifeguard.
Participants will be able to work during parks and recreation's many aquatic activities over the winter.
The fee for classes is $75 and the deadline to register is Dec. 7. Parks and rec will host a precourse swim test on this date from 7 to 8 p.m. at the swimming pool of Moffat County High School, 900 Finley Lane.
Classes will run through Christmas break.
