Sharp-eyed resident helps foil burglar
Jewelry store broken into Saturday; suspect arrested same day after description given

Kester Jewelry, at 530 Yampa Ave., was broken into at approximately 2:25 a.m. Saturday. The front window was broken out and the store burglarized.
Approximately $1800 in jewelry was taken, and about $500 of damage was done to the store.
An immediate search of the area was conducted, aided by a description of the suspect given to the police by a witness.
Sgt. Rick Holford of the Moffat County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the search and observed a male matching the description. Craig Police Department officers took Jeremiah Hawthorne, 24, into custody, and a search warrant was obtained by Detective Sgt. Henry Stoffel for an apartment at the 500 block of Breeze Street. During the search, the stolen jewelry was recovered, and Hawthorne was placed under arrest on charges of criminal mischief, theft, and second-degree burglary. He is being held in the Moffat County jail. His bail is set at $5,000. He is due to appear in court today.
