Sexually violent predator in Craig

Daily Press Staff

Jeff W. Hammond, who the state has labeled a "sexually violent predator," arrived Wednesday in Moffat County, according to a news release from the Moffat County Sheriff's Office.

Hammond, 28, has listed his address as transient.

He was convicted in Jefferson County of one count of attempted sexual assault on a child in connection to an incident that occurred July 21, 2001. He was sentenced to two years in state prison and is on parole until May 7, 2012.

Hammond was evaluated by the state and found to have "positive results" on specialized tests, and was therefore ruled a sexually violent predator.

The Sheriff's Office release asks residents to remember any attempts of vigilantism, harassment or intimidation are not only detrimental to the safety of the community but also illegal.

As part of Hammond's probation, he is not allowed to be in contact with children 18 or younger, visit any parks or places children frequent or drive without his probation officer's permission.
