School board candidate forum takes place Thursday

What are the most pressing problems in our school district?
This is one of the questions that will be asked of the 11 candidates at the Moffat County School Board Candidate Forum being held Thursday. The Forum will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Moffat County High School auditorium and is open for anyone who wants to attend.
"The purpose of the forum is to let the candidates give their voice to the issues they see in the school district," said John Haddan, the Moffat County Education Association president who also is the agriculture instructor at the high school.
The forum is being sponsored by The Moffat County Education Association, the MCHS speech and debate team and the MCHS American government class.
Some topics that will be discussed are school funding, student achievement, where candidates stand on Amendment 66, their campaign plans and what they find to be key issues in the school district.
Each candidate will be asked 12 to 14 questions generated by MCEA and the other sponsors. Volunteer student moderators will ask the questions that were submitted from the American government class and speech and debate team. High school principal Thom Schnellinger highlighted that this is a very important election.
School Board elections take place every two years and school board members serve four-year terms. A school board member becomes term limited after two terms, but in cases where there is a vacancy on the board, a candidate may finish serving a previous members term before running for a full term.
Candidates only can do this at the beginning of their service on the school board. Election Day is Nov. 5.
