Rotary District Governor to visit Craig Rotary Club

Craig Daily Press Staff Report

Craig Rotary Club is getting a visit from Rotary District Governor Mike Forney.

Governor of district 5440, Forney will speak at 6:55 a.m. October 30 at the Holiday Inn of Craig, during the regular meeting of the Rotary club.

The international theme for the Rotary this year is, “Peace through Service,” and according to a news release, Forney will also encourage Rotarians to be, “Rotary Proud.”

Forney oversees 53 rotary clubs in his district throughout Wyoming, Northwestern Colorado, Eastern Idaho and Western Nebraska.

In the release, Forney is quoted saying, “We have every right to feel extremely proud of the work we’ve been doing in our local community, the region and internationally.”

Some examples of this are the $1 billion raised to help rid the world of polio and the provision of peace scholarships for over 60 postgraduate students each year.

According to the release, the Rotary Foundation provides more than $100 million a year in aid and matching grants for domestic and international projects, funded entirely by Rotarians.

“We’re anxious to share some of our projects with the District Governor,” local club president Karen Gibson said in the release.

The Craig Rotary club is involved in a Book Buddies program where they read to second grade classrooms in Moffat County schools at least once a month.

“We provide local community scholarships, put flags downtown and on Victory Way for patriotic holidays and are currently gearing up to start planning our annual Diamonds and Spurs event in January,” Gibson said in the release.
