Rig Count for Jan. 26

A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Friday, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:

• Colorado has 55 rigs online — 4 more than Jan. 18, but 16 less than Jan. 27, 2012.

• Wyoming has 48 rigs online — the same as Jan. 18, and the same as Jan. 27, 2012.



• The U.S. has 1,753 rigs online — 4 more than Jan. 18, but 255 less than Jan. 27, 2012.

Of those rigs:



— 1,683 are working on land, 18 in inland waters, and 52 offshore.

— 1,315 are drilling for oil, 434 for natural gas.

— 181 wells are directional, 1,127 are horizontal, and 445 are vertical.

As of the close of trading Thursday:

• Crude oil closed up 46 cents from a week ago at $95.95 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

• Colorado Southeast crude oil closed up 50 cents from a week ago at $83.35 a barrel.

• Colorado Western crude oil closed up 50 cents from a week ago at $82.88 a barrel.

• Wyoming Sweet crude oil closed up 46 cents from a week ago at $83.95 a barrel.

• Natural gas closed down 4 cents from a week ago at $3.45 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
