A count on oil and natural gas rigs, as of Dec. 29, operating in Colorado, Wyoming and the U.S. overall, according to Baker Hughes, Inc., a Houston-based energy consulting company:

• Colorado has 77 rigs online — the same as Dec. 22, and 17 more than Dec. 30, 2010.

• Wyoming has 56 rigs online — the same as Dec. 22, and 11 more than Dec. 30, 2010.

• The U.S. has 2,007 rigs online — 1 less than Dec. 22, but 292 more than Dec. 30, 2010.

— 1,948 are working on land, 17 in inland waters, and 42 offshore.

— 1,193 are drilling for oil, 809 for natural gas.

— 215 wells are directional, 1,167 are horizontal, and 625 are vertical.

• Crude oil closed at $99.65 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

• Colorado southeast crude oil closed at $87 a barrel.

• Colorado Western crude oil closed at $84.08 a barrel.

• Wyoming sweet crude oil closed at $83.65 a barrel.

• The national average price for natural gas closed at $3.07 per 10,000 million British thermal units or MMBtu.
