Ray Beck: Land of the free and Home of the brave
November 11, 2015
On Aug. 30, 2004 I received a letter from P.X. Kelly General, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret) and Chairman of the American Battle Monuments Commission. In that letter it stated that on May 29, 2004 the National World War II Memorial was finally dedicated on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. This Memorial was a gift to the nation and has become a permanent part of the National Park System, administered and operated by the National Park Service.
As part of the memorial there is a dedicated Registry of Remembrances of which I submitted two WWII Army veterans names. My father-in-law Donald H. Flint performed Extraordinary Heroism in Action at BamBan, Luzon and the Philippine Islands. For his service he received four Battle Stars, The Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross.
My dad, Roy W. Beck during active duty was charged with the building of airfields from 1942 to 1945 in the Southwest Pacific. He received the American Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star, the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Veterans Day is more than a gathering, a parade, a backyard barbeque with family and friends or a day off from work. Veterans Day is a day that we set aside to celebrate our military men and women past and present for their service to this great nation called America.

to and including his/her life." — Unknown author
That is an honor!
Freedom isn't free, it comes with a price and our veterans both past and present have paid that price. So enjoy your freedom today and take time to thank our military men and women for their service in the United States Military.
It's the soldier, not the politicians that ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
God Bless our troops and God Bless America!!!
