The Dead Dog Fire in Northwest Colorado near Rangely and Dinosaur expanded quickly from around 40 acres Sunday to 5,000 acres Monday to more than 17,000 acres Tuesday. Firefighters fought Monday and Tuesday to protect structures in the area, including the small community of Blue Mountain, Deserado Mine and oil fields near Rangely. As of late Wednesday, the fire is holding at about 17,000 acres with 10 percent containment.
