Peterson takes 4th place at state event
April 6, 2010
Although the Craig Middle School wrestling team didn't return from the April 2 and 3 middle school state tournament in Denver with any individual champions, coach Ron Linsacum said the team gained valuable experience.
"You would have liked to see them place higher," he said. "But I have no regrets. I think it was a good experience for all of them."
Craig Middle School fielded three wrestlers this season with Ashlee Griffiths competing in the 85-pound class, Brayden Peterson in the 115-pound class, and Sheldon Greenwood in the 152-pound class.
Peterson was able to finish with a record of 6-2 for a fourth-place finish.
Griffiths was well on her way after winning her first four matches, but a finger injury knocked her out of the tournament.
Greenwood, who started wrestling this year, finished 0-2, but Linsacum said the commotion that surrounds the state tournament will be good for the young wrestler's career.

"I think that was a good experience for him," he said.
Peterson ran into some bad luck, Linsacum said.
The eighth-grader pinned his first two opponents and bested his next two by points before running into a tough opponent.
A back-and-forth battle ensued, but Peterson wasn't able to score enough points at the end and was sent to the consolation bracket.
