Pet owners with dogs in need of a rinse or cats that need to be vaccinated are in luck this weekend in Craig: Murdoch's Ranch and Home Supply is hosting a Pet Health Fair to take care of all the pets' needs.
The store located at 2355 W. Victory Way will offer just about everything for the seasoned pet owner or even the aspiring one from at the pet fair, the first time it has hosted such an event. It runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The idea came from another Murdoch's, in Scotts Bluff, hosting a similar event.
"They did one and it was pretty successful, they had a lot of adoptions and vaccinations," said René Littlehawk-Calicura, the pet department specialist at Mudroch's in Craig. "Ours started as a dog wash but we kept on adding more things and it ballooned into this."
The fair will take place outside, behind the store and focus on keeping both the animals and their owners cool in the summer heat, Littlehawk-Calicura said. It will have several washing stations, discounted vaccinations from Bear Creek Animal Hospital, nail clipping from D'Tail Grooming and training tips and Q&A sessions from trainers Laura Tyler and Glenna Grandbush, among other vendor options, according to Murdoch's release on the fair.
"It's to bring the community together, let pet owners see what's available and pick up some tips for caring for and training their animals," Littlehawk-Calicura said.
The fair will also be an excellent destination for those without an animal who want a pet, or owners who would like to add another member to the family. The Humane Society of Moffat County will be there with pets available for adoption, where they can then be vaccinated and licensed with the city all in the same place.
Littlehawk-Calicura said she expects to have a good turnout based on the feedback she's gotten so far.
"I think a lot of people are planning to be there," she said. "It will be a good opportunity to socialize the dogs and learn some things in the process."
