Over a Cup: Turkey burgers in time for grilling season

Really Good Turkey Burgers
To make “Really Good Turkey Burgers,” you’ll need:
• 1 to 1 ½ pounds ground turkey
• 1 cup chopped mushrooms
• ½ large onion, chopped
• 2 tablespoons soy sauce
Mix all of the ingredients together and shape into four patties.
You may add blue cheese on top during the last part of grilling.
You can also use lean hamburger in place of the ground turkey.

Last week, my sister Darlene Blackford, from Rocky Ford, sent me some pictures of her hen Buffy with two cute, newly-hatched black and white speckled chicks.
She also sent two recipes.
The first recipe is one she's been telling me about for awhile now. It's for turkey burgers, just in time for the grilling season.
To make "Really Good Turkey Burgers," you’ll need the following ingredients:
about 1 to 1 ½ pounds ground turkey, 1 cup chopped mushrooms, ½ large onion (chopped), and 2 tablespoons soy sauce.
Mix the ingredients together and shape into four patties. Grill.
Darlene wrote that you may add blue cheese on top during the last part of grilling.
She added a note: she has also used lean ground hamburger in place of the turkey, and it was also good.
She also sent along a recipe for "Fruity Baked Oatmeal," which she says her family really likes.
It may be warmed up later and is good with yogurt on top.
To make this oatmeal dish, you'll need: 3 cups quick-cooking oats, 1 cup packed brown sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 1 teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, 2 eggs (lightly beaten), 1 cup fat free milk, ½ cup butter (melted), ¾ cup chopped and peeled tart apple, 1/3 cup chopped fresh or frozen peaches, 1/3 cup fresh or frozen blueberries, and ½ cup chopped nuts (optional). Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare an 8-inch square baking dish by coating it with cooking spray.
In a large bowl, combine the oats, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
Combine the eggs, milk, and butter.
Add this mixture to the dry ingredients.
Stir in the apple, peaches, and blueberries.
Pour the mixture into the baking dish.
Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes, until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Cut into squares.
This makes about 9 servings.
Serve with milk, if desired. Wouldn't this be good for breakfast? Thanks, Darlene.
