William M. “Bill” Hix

1911-2001

William Hix died June 1, 2001, at his home in Alton, Mo. He was 89.

On Sept. 6, 1911, in Grand Junction, he was born the son of Tom and Mary Hix. He graduated high school in Grand Junction in 1931.

On June 5, 1938, he married Myrtle J. Queen. In 1948, he moved his family to Craig where he took over the Hix Apartments from his parents.

Hix worked in a sawmill, and as a rancher, general contractor and Justice of the Peace of Craig. He also built the current building for the A-1 Dry Cleaners, Laundry and Carwash. He was a long-time Gideon and a founding member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He retired in Alton, Mo., with his second wife, Viola Hix.

Hix is survived by his wife; sons, William L. of Denver, Robert S. of Colorado Springs; daughter, Twila White; former wife, Myrtle Hix of Craig; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Tommie Brannick; brother, Jorge Hix and three nephews.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Lakeside Cemetery in Loveland.
