No Winter Fest at Wyman’s
January 16, 2014
The Wyman Living History Museum will not host its Winter Festival this year. The festival, which had run in late February the last seven years, had to cancel late in the game after finding out one of its major attractions will not be available this year.
The festival is host to a variety of events, including a chili cook-off, ice fishing, hockey and Snocross races. The latter event was an annual addition to the Xtreme Mountain Racing Snocross circuit, and occupied a large portion of the Winter Festival setup with heats of riders competing for much of the morning and early afternoon.
The XMR circuit was recently sold and the race for that weekend has been moved to Grand Lake.
In an e-mail to the Craig Daily Press, Wyman's representatives said they didn't "feel (they) could put on a good enough event this quickly with half of our event missing."
The Winter Festival has been one of the museum's major events, attracting a large local crowd and others from outside of town, but the employees didn't believe they could put together the event they wanted with little time to plan.
"We are sorry and we will see what next year brings," the e-mail said. "We are sorry and want to thank the community for all its support in the previous years."
