The Lady Bulldogs' final match before the tournament started as one of their closest, with a 25-22 first set, but the Cardinals — runners-up of the league behind conference champion Coal Ridge — made it 25-9 in the second.

"They played really tough in the first match, it was fun to watch them," said head coach Starla Jensen. ""They played confident, aggressive, and we weren't able to quite put all those together for the second game. Third game was a little better but not as strong as the first one."

Moffat County girls will meet the Parachute team again Friday afternoon in the WSL event, also scheduled to meet No. 6 seed Roaring Fork and third place Aspen, whom they defeated, 3-2, back in September, only for the 4-3 Skiers to pick up momentum winning five of their eight October games.

"They're coming on strong, and if you hit the peak at the end of your season, that's really what you want to do," Jensen said.

The last Saturday game will be determined by how teams fare during tourney play between the two pools of Western Slope teams, the Lady Dogs currently on the same tier with last place Basalt, though that could change, and a couple upsets would shake up the finals.

If this weekend is the girls' last chance to play this fall, they'll go down swinging and get as close as they can to that 36 mark, Jensen said.

"Any team wants to go out on a high note, go out doing well, playing hard, and I definitely think if these girls put their mind to it, it's totally possible," she said. "It could go any way."
