Relay, field athletes ready for 2nd meet
March 12, 2010
The Moffat County High School track and field team will compete at 3:15 p.m. today in Aurora at the Ralston Valley Relays.
MCHS is coming off a successful first meet of the year.
Competing March 5 at the Warrior Relays in Grand Junction, several MCHS events took first place.
MCHS took first in the boys 4-by-1,600-meter relay, 4-by-100-meter relay, 1,600-meter medley and triple jump.
The boys also claimed third in the discus, the 4-by-200-meter relay, fourth in the 800-meter medley and fifth in the 4-by-400-meter relay.
The boys shot put team missed taking first place by less than an inch.
The girls team took first place in the 1,600-meter medley, second in the 4-by-800-meter relay, and third in discus, high jump and long jump.
The girls also took fourth in the 800-meter medley and the triple jump, and fifth in the 4-by-400 meter, 4-by-100 and 4-by-200 meter relays.
Junior Maddy Jourgensen came into the March 5 Warrior Relays after a short week of practice because of girls varsity basketball team's playoff run.
"It was weird because I only had two days of practice," she said. "Otherwise, I thought it went really well."
The Ralston Valley meet, like the Warrior Relays, consists only of relay and field events.
Jourgensen, who will run the 4-by-1,600-meter relay today, said she had a personal goal of finishing in less than five minutes and 30 seconds.
"I'm expecting we'll all have faster times this week," she said. "I think we'll all do better.”
