Moffat County soccer team begins playoff chase tonight
Bulldogs facing Windsor High School on the road in first-round action
October 27, 2010
For the first time in five years, the Moffat County High School boys varsity soccer team is part of the 32-team 4A high school playoffs.
The Bulldogs will play at 7 p.m. tonight at Windsor High School in the first round.
The Bulldogs will be in for a fight against Windsor.
At 14-1, the Wizards are tied with Cheyenne Mountain and Air Academy for the top overall record in 4A.
Moffat County and Windsor have a common past, sharing a 5-8-2 record last season, with neither making it to the playoffs.
Both teams have bounced back this season, however, and play tonight for a chance to play in the second round.
Windsor has shutout 11 opponents this season.
Goalie Kyle Weinmeister, who has 37 saves, has shutout opponents in nine straight games.
But, Windsor will have to contend with the Bulldogs' offensive firepower. At 11-4 this year, the Bulldogs have consistently depended on their offense, spearheaded by senior Tracy Mendoza.
Mendoza has 29 goals and six hat tricks this season.
Windsor player Garrett Winner is the highest-scoring Wizard, with 24 goals and three hat tricks.
