Moffat County soccer back on track vs. Colorado Rocky Mountain

Nate Waggenspack

— Moffat County’s girls soccer team took about one half to recover from its loss last weekend to Coal Ridge.

The Bulldogs practiced indoors for much of the week and traveled to Carbondale to take on Colorado Rocky Mountain. After a “sluggish” start, according to coach Harry Tripp, the Bulldogs turned it on for a comfortable 7-0 win and tied the school record for wins in a season.

They spread the ball around well in the win, with six players scoring. Alex Samuelson, Allie Ehlers, Bailey Hellander, Brenna Ciesco and Jazmine Swindler all had goals, and Brittany Walker added two.

The Bulldogs had a 2-0 lead at halftime, but Tripp said they didn’t look as comfortable as in past weeks. That was partially because of practicing on a hard floor during the week leading up to the game.

“I told them we’re beating ourselves up,” Tripp said at halftime. “We’re pressing too much. Let the passes and shots come to you. Controlling the speed of the ball was the biggest thing” we needed to do.

The Bulldogs settled down in the second half and scored five goals in about 25 minutes. Then Tripp put more junior varsity players in the game to close it out.

Skylar Tripp had an easy day in goal with Moffat County controlling the ball for most of the game, but she made five saves when the ball came her way.

Moffat County improved to 5-4 this season and tied the school record for most wins in a year. They will have a chance to break the record Tuesday in Craig when Roaring Fork comes to play.
